Otago is a series of 17 strength and balance exercises delivered by a Qualified Instructor that reduces falls between 35 and 40% for frail older adults. This evidence-based program, developed in New Zealand, calls for Qualified Instructors to assess, coach and progress patients over the course of six months to one year.
The name "Otago" is the local southern Māori dialect pronunciation of "Ōtākou", the name of the Māori village near the entrance to Otago Harbour.

Pop-Up Dance
Thursday 9am-1pm
Bury St Edmunds Ballet School (formerly Pop-Up Dance) has been running adult ballet classes at Pakenham Village Hall for 7 years. The classes are relaxed and sociable occasions, but also technically challenging to build muscle strength, increase cardiovascular fitness and improve balance. The combination of music and movement also improves cognitive abilities and is found to reduce the risk of dementia and alzheimers in older people. The classes regularly meet for social events such as theatre trips and Christmas dinners.
